Researching Student Interaction with GIS Software While Learning Spatial Concepts: Toward a Standard Measure of GIS Interaction

A better understanding of differences in the nature human computer interaction (HCI) relating to GIS software can help with learning spatial concepts and thinking skills. This motivates our study, which aims create a standard measure that be used individually or along existing measurement instruments for generalize results across studies evaluating usability. The study developed composite taxonomy identifying types user interactions strategies relation different processes reasoning. was as framework tasks users complete GIS. Study data were collected from 35 students enrolled an online undergraduate course covering fundamentals geographic information science technology. Following three assignments using demonstrate range problem solving, completed various constituting interaction. indicate succeeds measuring how individuals interact strategize tasks. will useful development usability guidelines further contributes research acquisition application reasoning environments.
